Staring at my reflection
I cower at my superego
I deliver doses of shame
But it’s merely incognito
I blame our society and
their unrealistic portrayals
But that’s just a deflection
Of my personal betrayals
Allowing “them”‘to define me
That’s betrayal number one
Finding fault in my differences
It’s a struggle that’s never done
Then there’s betrayal number two
Countless time spent with the mirror:
No hairstyle or myriad of makeup
Will utter the words I crave to hear…
My beauty is found intrinsically
It’s embedded deep within my soul
It can’t be measured by my weight
It’s time to acknowledge I AM whole.
